Interesting that the # of licensed drivers in the US is decreasing
#not really ig bc urbanization is still a force#but it remains up in the air whether we're going to see improvements in public transportation over the next couple decades afaik#also i think a lot of the migration to cities rn is cities that have definitively poor public transportation e.g. houston#or my own beloved charlotte (not beloved)#from experience i know that it can actually be more difficult & less safe to navigate without a car in those places than in rural areas#(btw just looked it up and confirmed it is this sort of city that's seeing population growth)#(mostly)#soo back to why are licensed driver numbers dropping#i think i want to pin it on lack of resources?#plus this is mostly an issue among young adults many of whom weren't physically at school during the time when students take driving classes#this interests me bc people have always thought it was really weird i never learned to drive but i've noticed more and more ppl#especially young women#talking about not knowing how to drive

This perfectly describes one of the main draws of Ronance for me.
Just fyi, I don't think there's a version of Nancy who isn't endeared by Robin's rambles. Once she knows her and knows that her words are not an attack on her capabilities, then she's golden.
Like, Robin honestly did not start off on the best foot with her ramble about how her idea was kind of crazy and not likely to be helpful at all. Obviously, Nancy was going to feel hurt and irritated by it. Anyone would also be annoyed by a practical stranger going through all her stuff the moment she is let into her room, despite being asked not to.
However, despite all that, look at how they interact and talk about each other after they work through their differences! A Nancy who was ever annoyed because Robin talks a lot would not keep seeking her out as her partner in crime. A Nancy who was annoyed wouldn't quietly ask if they're actual friends, wouldn't endearingly mention something that Robin talked about in one of her rambles the second the moment arrives to do so.
Either way, whether you like them as platonic or romantic, those two immediately clicked after the initial confusion. They both liked and respected each other by the end of the asylum plot. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

not lost on me that the conversation around white women voting for trump is “dumb bitches voting against their own rights, can’t trust them ever” while the narrative for white men is “oh no how can we get them back*? we must have hurt their feelings, we need to be nicer to them!”
*we never had them to begin with
#i don’t necesssrily think that the reaction to white women is unwarranted#but it’s wild to see both happening at the same time#especially considering that democrats had gains with white women and losses with (young) white men

my Stephanie Brown hot take is that she should get mad bitches now that she's single in comics. Yes yes shipping BUT the one time she had sex she was punished by the narrative via teen pregnancy. I think she should be allowed to have as much sex as she wants with zero consequences. Could be a lot of sex, could be a little. Point is she should get to do it without getting narratively baby trapped this time. she should get them pregnant, actually.
#ramblings of a lunatic#dc comics#dc#stephanie brown#this is a joke post but it also. isn't#like. i understand that what I'm asking for is a very slippery slope especially in the hands of the average comic writers (hates women sm)#but consider that i think it would be neat if female characters in the batmythos had sex lives again...#babs was out here having cybersex with ted kord in the 90s! helena had sex! black canary had sex and was kinda a gotham chara back then!#cass is generally more interested in justice than in sex and i abide by that#(tho user @casscain-mainly has great meta diving into the portrayal of cass' sexuality! good read and was on the brain while typing this)#steph however? canonical sex haver and got done dirty for it#like. personally i prefer to imagine that steph having sex with dean was 100% her choice#idk man she just felt like it! she wanted to bone#and maybe there's other factors at play there- Dean is by all accounts deeply unpleasant as a person so no doubt-#-stephs chronic low self-esteem played into her choice of man here#but again i like to imagine that it was all sane and consensual (tho not safe which again. lots to ponder there-#-like ik dixon was NAWT thinking abt this at the time but Steph's mom is a nurse. a semi-absent nurse but a nurse nonetheless)#(i find it hard to believe that Steph didn't have a basic sex education. meaning it was either a freak accident she got pregnant-#-or a wildly ooc decision on her part. OR some kind of outside pressure put on her by someone/something)#(we'll never know bc dixon hates me personally)#BUT ANYWAY yeah Steph has some kind of canonical sex drive and is just. soundly punished for it#and then she's with Tim (Paragon of Male Virtue in Dixons eyes) so no sex whatsoever no no no ☝️#and she's never had a seriously considered love interest outside of Tim to ever consider having sex with#ALL THIS TO SAY. let Steph have sex again but without the narrative punishment in 2025#if this is what it takes to get her back in bat books so be it#also she should get to hook up with some age appropriate fellow heroes. as like fun one offs#who's in her age range? blue beetle (jaime)? circuit breaker? assuming we're trying to make this canonical and (sigh) can't pull women#I'm blanking on men who aren't vaguely too old/young for steph or gay. or just awkward (i.e like. kon el. that'd just feel weird yknow?)#ANYWAY yeah. Some fans: Eloise is such a fake feminist, doesn't she see how some girls and women enjoy marriage? Doesn't she see how her privileges give her luxuries others don't? She's so selfish. She doesn't even use her words to support other women!
Also same fans: I wish Eloise would stop talking, like her speaking about feminism at every turn is getting old. Can't she just be quiet and let everyone enjoy the fun? Like yeah talking about women's lack of personhood without a male figure in society, or how they can't go to university, or how sometimes they marry men who will only hurt them but need to for their status is sad to see, but THE ROMANCE-
#bridgerton#eloise bridgerton#like...this is the rhetoric i see a lot in this fandom especially on twitter and insta#like how are you going to call eloise a fake but then get mad at her when she calls out her society?#how are you going to wish that characters you love weren't put in these circumstances but then shit on the only one calling it out?#like is eloise flawed in her mindset? of course but 1.) she's young and learning 2.) making attempts to grow 3.) is the only one championing#for women's rights verbally and numerous times on screen#and while she is privileged it's shown many in her stsnding don't agree with her and turn against her when she speaks about feminism#so you can tell that it's not a favored topic of discussion#that within itself shows me that she's doing more than most around her#(and no just making a fortune for yourself as woman does not make you adherently feminist especially if you earned that wealth by tearing#down other women (no matter their status) and/or blackmailing them)#and to say eloise is fake but ignore how she risked so much to protect not only pen but geneieve is laughable

What if I read fire and blood simply for the evil women
#don’t get me wrong i LOVE rhaenyra & alicent in the show#but i feel in regards to their evilness it’s been downplayed a lot from the books#especially rhaenyra who whilst i haven’t directly read it i know she does in fact do many actions which earn her rhaenyra the cruel title#let women be evil!#there is no good or bad in hotd it’s just bad LMAOO#bad vs bad and i love them#we are starting to see a bit more cruel rhaneyra tho so that’s cool#alicent is not super cooking rn but i believe my in my girl#hotd#house of the dragon#rhaenyra targeryan#alicent hightower#fire and blood#got#hotd s2#ah yes tell me these historic acts of cruelty alicent and rhaenyra have done#no young rhaenicent or young alicent in the book tho obviously which is RIP for me but it’s okay

Thinking about the Chevalier interlude, specifically the inaugural team of Wards. Like in universe, they sell it to this first group of kids (and presumably the rest of the world) as a place for second chances, to find friends and mentors who understand what youre going through, where you can learn to use your powers safely while making good memories. The kids broadly seem to believe in these noble intentions of course, but what really gets me is that I've seen readers buy into it!
"Oh, it's such a tragedy that the Wards program became this awful thing that traumatizes kids even more, and expects them to die for the sake of civilians! It's fallen so short of what it was originally supposed to be!"
No it has not??? The fact that the triumvirate and Hero are saying it has this noble goal doesn't make it true. The Wards was pretty clearly always a way to increase the amount of bodies the prt could throw at threats, and we know this because it was started by the fucking Triumvirate as a part of the Protectorate! Alexandria literally came up with the idea of the Protectorate to legitimize the power of capes, and have a consistent source of heroes Cauldron could throw at problems. That is the whole reason for the PRT/Protectorate existing. So when we have this group of children brought in a subsidiary, there are 2 real options.
1). Cauldron and Alexandria decided they would be really niceys and created this program with no intentions other than helping these kids out.
Or 2). As things got worse, they realized the Protectorate didn't have enough manpower to do what they needed, and so they expanded it to include children (the demographic most prone to triggering). That way, they greatly increase the number of capes who they can send to fight and die as needed, and the ones who do survive their tenure in the Wards will be better trained when it comes time to join the actual Protectorate.
At the risk of sounding conceited, I think the second one is far more likely based on everything we know about Cauldron. Maybe it was originally a little nobler, and the goal was just to create more well trained heroes and cut back on young villains, but there's no way Alexandria, Doc Mom, and Contessa didn't factor in the ability to sacrifice the kid heroes if it improved their chances of success. That was absolutely a perk at minimum.
That's the real tragedy of the inaugural Wards. The kids were lured in with promises of safety, comraderie, and second chances like lambs to the slaughter. All the while, Alexandria and Cauldron knew that many (if not most) of these children would suffer abuse by the prt (like in the case of Reed), die, or face a fate worse than death like poor Mouse Protector. It's horrifying! The idea that they didn't know the danger these kids would be in is literally inconceivable. Especially when one of you is also the head of the prt! They knew, and they didn't care. It improved their chances at the end of the world, and so they did it no matter the cost.
#the same ppl will talk about Taylor being an unreliable narrator who we cannot trust#and then take Alexandria at face value#i think a lot of it is that this genre of guys very uncritically support and assume the best of authority figures#especially law enforcement#in a way that they just dont when it's a teenage girl who's never so much as glanced in the direction of a healthy coping mechanism#the great irony here being that fundamentally the prt/protectorate and Cauldron are all *also* being run by traumatized young women#and also that pretty much every negative opinion Taylor expresses abt the prt is 100% vindicated as the story goes on#genuinely baffled ppl can read Worm and be like 'Taylor's distrust of the prt was irrational'#it's the same energy as calling a woman hysterical#yes this *is* just me remembering the We've Got Worm podcast guys#they are my mortal enemies when it comes to wormposting#worm spoilers#worm#worm web serial#worm wildbow#parahumans

people hate lesbians. PEOPLE HATE LESBIANS!!!
#i hate hate hate hate HATE#and i don't buy that all of these ppl are only upset bc goldstar lesbians 'brag' about never having slept with a man#(they're probably not even 'bragging' and are just being projected onto)#but i genuinely think ppl are uncomfortable at the prospect of a lesbian knowing she's a lesbian from a young age#and choosing to never sleep with a man#this is obviously not to say 'late bloomer lesbians' aren't 'valid' or whatever#but the reality is most of these girlies calling themselves lesbians... are not#ESPECIALLY when i see shit going around like#'well the lesbian masterdoc said that if i'm only attracted to male CELEBRITIES it doesn't count because they're unattainable 😌'#like bestie if anything doesn't that mean you AREN'T a lesbian?#it's common for OSA women to 'let' themselves be more openly attracted to men they'll never meet irl#not being instantly attracted to men you see walking around irl is very common for OSA ppl because most know what men are like lmao#anyways tangent but goldstar lesbians get behind me#lesbian#lesbophobia#radsplain.txt

god i wish we had gotten more of twelve with river song. he just meshes so well with her and since their time streams are finally (almost) synced up you don’t feel the imbalance of maturity/knowledge that you get in a lot of eleven’s time with her, and less general timeline “where are they right now what the fuck is happening” fuckery to sort through. just a husband and wife who have lived so much together and know it’s coming to an end very soon so they have to relish it (even if river doesn’t have the knowledge of her own death the way the doctor does, she knows it’s almost over because her diary is running out of pages). and i love watching this older, less theatrical, more rough-around-the-edges doctor with her because it develops their dynamic and the passage of time for the doctor so well. he's not eleven, trying to hide the pain and damage anymore. he doesn't spin off lies and deflections. he wears the hurt and is comfortable in it, and river is there to bring the joy and wonder out. they just have a more mature, beautiful relationship to me.
more thoughts and elaboration under the cut bc i care for your dash <3
twelve and river were such a delight to watch because (this is getting into hot take territory here sorry) once capaldi took over from matt smith, the show basically gave up on the whole “the doctor is very attractive and all the women want him” narrative that it pushed for eleven. of course it was there with ten but i think it got Egregious with eleven. moffat really wanted us to believe matt smith was the hottest man in the universe (and he’s not unattractive! i admit i thought he was attractive when i first watched doctor who years and years ago! the writing was just over the top with it!) twelve is not some young whimsical prettyboy anymore— he’s abrasive, blunt, and old. the show doesn’t treat him like he’s supposed to be attractive, which makes him and river’s relationship feel so real.
first off i want to point out that river is still very much attracted to the doctor in his new body which was so exciting for me because how often to we get to see romance and desire and (sexually) intimate relationships in people past the age of 35??? hardly ever! how often do we see a beautiful woman expressing desire for a man that’s not young or conventionally handsome NOT because she has ulterior motives or we’re supposed to believe he’s actually the sexiest man alive but because she simply loves him? how often do we see relationships where no matter how much change they go through, even when one of them has turned into an entirely different person (figuratively or literally), the love stays steady and unchanged? especially when these changes involve aging? there isn’t nearly enough. and seeing it is kind of healing for me, just a reminder that you can have love and intimacy and passion even when you’re not “young and beautiful” anymore
twelve and river’s relationship is just charged with so much shared experience and trust and i wish we had gotten to see more of it. in conclusion i want a special that recaps the 24 years on darillium thank you and goodbye
#they had twenty four years…#all that time to just live and be husband and wife#all that time for her to learn all the ins and outs of the new him#and all the ways for him to work through how he can express love in the new body#as twelve rather than eleven#and getting to see that she loves him just the same in every form#idk i’ve been thinking a lot about aging lately#i know im young but i have a bit of a fear of it because of how society pushes the whole ‘past your prime’ narrative#especially for women who are taught that they lose value once their ‘youth and beauty’ fades#like i said seeing relationships like these is healing#doctor who#twelfth doctor#river song#the husbands of river song

In May of 2021 Maeve Boothby O’Neill was told by an NHS doctor she would “feel much better if you gave your hair a wash”. In October of 2021 she died. Multiple young women are in situations extremely similar to those that led to her death, right now.
#myalgic encephalomyelitis#mecfs#medical gaslighting#medical misogyny#I wish I was well enough to reread it and post some screencaps of key bits but I’m not so#maybe someone has already shared this article on here but I haven’t seen it#people outside the me community need to know what’s happening to people with me especially young women#we know of multiple young women just in the uk in very similar situations to maeve’s before her death#edit: I have tried to add a couple of screenshots from the article#I feel so trapped and frustrated that I’m too severe to do a decent job at making people aware of this illness but anyway

I wish you had been at the club girl maybe you would have been a less insufferable person 🙏
People have not been this pissed off about me not liking a “harmless” meme/turn of phrase since I said that even jokingly using the term “whipped” sets you up to subconsciously see doing things for your partner as a sign of weakness and a negative trait.
I stand by that one, too, by the way.
(to clarify: I did not know that "X should be at the club" started as a fictional character thing because the first time I saw it was in the context of someone wanting to kidnap real, actual early-20s brides and take them to the club. because obviously that's what they need, right? there's no possible reason to marry in your early 20s besides oppression/coercion!</s>)
#ask#Anon#if it’s being insufferable to not think that there’s one correct way to be young and happy (especially for women)#I will be insufferable until the day I die :)#anon hate#like why are you so defensive of the notion that young women who don’t live their lives a certain way are missing out

Thinking about how Wonder Woman in the Pérez run/early 87 series really needed a secret identity. (Stick with me here!) Now, this isn't something that as a reader i would want (I've never had much interest in "Diana Prince") or that would be helpful for Diana's mission, and I actively think a true secret id would be something Diana would dislike immensely and hate to use and maintain. But I honestly think having one, at least at a limited level, would have saved Diana and her loved ones SO much pain down the road. Because while they loved Diana, her presence in their live brought so many villains back to their home which in turn hurt the people she cared about
Like I just think about all the horrible things that the Kapetelises (especially Vanessa, she was used as such a punching bag) went through just by virtue of loving Diana... Its truly awful the unintended consequences that came with loving her and taking her into their home, just because everyone knew she was Wonder Woman. Like this was very public knowledge, they were on the news all the time and newspaper and magazine covers and everything together
Which while cool still was damaging! I mean Nessie was in MIDDLE SCHOOL of all places and everyone knew she was hosting Diana. It was shown that whether or not most people at school wanted to be around her directly and saw her as interesting or desirable depended directly on Diana and if she was in town with them! And that's really just the tip of the iceberg there with Vanessa but she was put under so much pressure and given such awful conceptions of herself through her peers knowing she was close with Diana.
It's just such a mess. And like I don't think a secret identity would be something that she would ever think of having realistically at this point, especially because she's so new, and there isn't a strong and visible need for one, (and her public identity as ww was already attached to her loved ones) but I do think that many things may have turned out better for the Kapetelises later if they were publically joined by Diana Deneiros, Julia's niece from Greece, as opposed to Wonder Woman
#diana of themyscira#julia kapatelis#vanessa kapatelis#blah#just more thoughts on this#the vanessa stuff especially messes me up because like it gets so bad with her and everything#like yes there were very clearly other external factors at play there and we hate them#but it fucks me up how in a pretty great part vanessas life got so fucked up later because of the way this world treats young women#and how that got escalated towards and around her because of her association with diana#and its something that has very much almost always been present in her arc long long before they decided to do the whole silver swan thing#but at the same time its such a big character thing that i know just leads to that and so much pain#im losing coherency here so ill stop this post but yeah. vanessa#hopefully this makes sense bc i slept almost 6 hours in the middle of writing this and just woke up#wonder woman

man, hollywood has really warped some perceptions of how people age if you think that young manzino (32) looks perfect as a 20yo, but also that bella (20) and isabela (22) are too young looking to play 19/20 year olds
#also don't even get me started on the inherent misogyny in that#the way that women are held to different aging standards#especially in hollywood#and also the fact that they look so young just UNDERSCORES how awful the shit they experience and do is#like they are barely adults#and some people just look young#also this is literally no shade to young i am so excited to see him as jesse#but be fr fr y'all#the last of us
